The Student Government General Assembly has four standing committees focused on important topics to undergraduate students. Each committee is comprised of both voting representatives of the General Assembly and At-Large committee members. Each committee is chaired by a voting member of the General Assembly. Every week, each chair gives an update on the current events within the committee as they are pertinent during the General Assembly meeting.

Legislative Branch Standing Committees

Academic Affairs

This committee works on policy concerning the academic well-being of students and general academic related issues. Works with academic departments, faculty, students, and library to advocate for students’ academic needs. This committee will also work with their respective College leadership. Ideally, Membership would include a representative from each College.

Campus Development

Works to develop campus facilities, develop feedback concerning the university’s campus as it stands, and gets recommendations from students for planning future renovations, buildings, and grounds. This committee will also assist in representing undergraduate students in relation to the campus master plan. Some of the issues this committee will address includes sustainability, parking, and transportation.

Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility

Responsible for addressing student concerns around inclusion, diversity, and equal access to campus and the resources it provides. The Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility committee works in partnership with student groups and the Office of Equity and Accessibility to advocate for the well-being and success of individual students and groups of students who, because of their identity, experience marginalization in the community.

Student Health and Wellness

Tasked with addressing student concerns related to health and wellness. Committee will work to ensure the 6 dimensions of wellness outlined by Hokie Wellness (Purpose, Social, Financial, Community, Physical, and Emotional) are met for all students. University departments related to this committee might include Hokie Wellness, Recreational Sports, Cook Counseling Center, Dean of Students Office, Schiffert Health Center, Dining, and Residence Life, etc.
